Playing strength & rating

What is the difference between playing strength and rating?

Your playing strength is a whole number from 1 to 9. A beginning player gets a 9 and a professional player a 1. An indication of all playing strengths can be found here. The playing strength is used for league and tournament registration. That way you play against equal opponents. Your playing strength is determined by your rating at the end of each season. Your new playing strength is communicated in November, but does not take effect until the following year and applies for the full year from January to December. Your rating is a number with four decimal places. After each official match, this number is adjusted. So your rating changes during the year. It is used during the season for your exact placement in a tournament, so that the best players have the best chance to meet in the finals. Your rating also allows you to track your own progress during the season.

Your playing strength and rating are visible in your player profile on MijnKNLTB or in the ClubApp.
